History

A portion of the land that the Colonnades now occupies was once used by the United States Navy.  The Navy trained forces on our island during World War II and Ft. Pierce is now considered the birthplace of the Navy SEALS.  On November 13, 2007, President Bush signed legislation that recognizes the Ft. Pierce UDT-SEAL Museum as the national museum of Navy SEALS and their predecessors.

The Colonnades Olympic-size swimming pool was built by the Navy as part of the officers' quarters.  There were barracks and dormitories around what is now the Colonnades complex.

After the Navy, the land was occupied by the Shamrock Village.
